Support Services and Facilities

The University Bulletin serves as an annual record of academic program requirements and regulations. Beyond that specific academic regulatory scope are the support services, facilities, and regulations that encompass all the other aspects of life in a university community. 

Additional regulatory scope for student and university community life is maintained through several of the offices listed below. The Office of Public Safety publishes parking regulations, for example. The Office of Student Affairs publishes regulatory information including but not limited to the Student Code of Conduct and Immunization Policies published by the University Health Center. Members of the university community are also responsible for being familiar with and in adherence to all conduct and health requirements.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion collaborates with organizations on campus to provide community members affected by bias a safe, secure and confidential avenue to be heard and supported. At the heart of Loyola’s mission as a Jesuit institution is our commitment to being a place where all students, staff, faculty, and guests feel welcome, inspired, and supported. We work to achieve this every day and across all areas of the institution, because that is what it means to us to be “people with and for others.” We strive to foster a spirit of mutual recognition and support—to be a community in which all people can thrive.

International Education & Study Abroad

With over 100 students from 40 different countries, and approximately 30% of students graduating with an experience abroad and academic courses with a global perspective, Loyola University New Orleans is truly an international institution. The Center for International Education (CIE) works with faculty, staff, and students to promote and develop the international character of the university.

For students wanting an education abroad experience, the Center for International Education is the first stop with advising and information on both Loyola and non-Loyola programs, financial aid, and scholarships. Staff work with students to help them find the right program that will meet their academic and personal goals, financial situation, and interests. Students must also meet with their academic adviser and the associate dean in their college prior to applying to a non-Loyola study abroad program. 

Numerous Study Abroad programs are available for Loyola students. There are semester and year-long programs, community service/immersion programs, components to academic courses, and summer study abroad. While the majority of students study abroad for summer programs, a growing number of students are selecting semester or year-long programs. Students can attend both Loyola and non-Loyola programs, but Loyola financial aid can usually only be applied to Loyola exchange programs and ISEP. The university has a number of affiliations with study abroad programs that provide limited scholarships or discounts for Loyola students. Students must apply by the deadlines of October 1 for the spring and March 1 for the fall in order to receive credit for non-Loyola programs abroad. There are earlier deadlines for Loyola exchange programs.

Mission and Identity

The Office of Mission & Identity at Loyola University New Orleans seeks to foster the Jesuit and Catholic mission of the institution and educate the Loyola community of its Jesuit/Catholic identity and heritage. We minister to the Loyola University community by fostering and nurturing the spiritual formation of the university community, and responding to the pastoral needs of students, faculty and staff. In collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and administrators, we seek to promote a vision of the "way of proceeding" set forth by St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus.  Embracing our common human dignity created in God’s image and likeness, we foster a greater respect for the truth, goodness, and grace to be found in a diversity of faith traditions and people of every culture, race, language, and economic status.

Our Christian, Catholic, and Jesuit traditions commission us to offer a welcoming environment and supportive services to all members of the university community. We assist the formation of our community members to be contemplatives-in-action;  God’s spirit illuminating them with an ever deeper experience of the love of God and inspiring a more generous response to that love by their passionate commitment to service and justice as men and women with and for others.

J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library

The Monroe Library is a vibrant meeting place for students to learn, collaborate, and study, The library provides a variety of individual and group study spaces and classrooms, technologies, and access to a wealth of information resources such as online journals, databases, books, scores, recordings, DVDs,digital collections and archival materials that support all of the university’s programs.  A librarian is assigned to each program of study. Contact your librarian liaison to get support for your research paper or project. 

  • Special Collections & Archives collects, preserves, and makes available published materials, manuscripts, and archives that preserve the history of Louisiana and the South, the Society of Jesus, and Loyola University New Orleans. 
  • Media Services is responsible for instructional technology equipment throughout the campus, and designs and supports presentation systems in campus classrooms, and library classrooms and meeting rooms. Media Services reserves and loans a variety of portable equipment to faculty, students, and staff.
  • The Online Learning Team supports the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) for on-campus, online, and hybrid courses at Loyola University of New Orleans. This includes management of the Blackboard application, integration of data from LORA (courses, instructors, students, and enrollments), and assistance with the integration of audio, video, image, and course materials into course content.

Pan-American Life Student Success Center

The Pan-American Life Student Success Center (SSC) supports students as they meet individual, academic, and personal goals. By nurturing a holistic culture of self-efficacy and a sense of empowerment, the SSC aims to ensure students have the tools to graduate from Loyola University New Orleans.

Located on the second floor of the J. Edgar & Louise S. Monroe Library, we offer a range of services in the form of academic advising and success coaching, tutoring and learning resources, career development, online student success, and accessible education. We also offer a range of workshops, success courses, and mentoring programs for Loyola’s diverse student body.

The following offices can be found in the SSC: 

Online Programs: The success coaching and academic advising services offered to undergraduate students through the SSC are available to all Loyola first-year students, whether enrolled in on-campus or online programs. Information on services offered for students studying online is available by contacting the SSC staff directly.

  • Accessible Education
    Formerly called the Office for Disability Services, the Office for Accessible Education (OAE) helps to facilitate access to academic courses and university programs and activities for students. OAE is reframing its role and becoming a model of universal design and the social response to disability. We are leading the university to consider "what must be done" rather than "what can be done" and shifting the disability paradigm from the medical model to the social model of disability. Students who are interested in receiving additional support through our office should contact us for more information.

  • Advising & Coaching
    Loyola’s Office of Academic Advising and Success Coaching offers support services to full-time students enrolled in the university’s undergraduate colleges (Business, Music & Media, and Arts & Sciences).  Our staff of professional advisor-coaches works to fulfill the teaching and learning mission of higher education at Loyola, assisting students in their quest to become members of Loyola’s community, to think critically about their roles and responsibilities as students, and to prepare them to be educated citizens of a democratic society and a global community dedicated to a life of learning and service undertaken for and with others.
     
  • Career Development Center
    The Career Development Center assists students in discovering their strengths and pursuing a plan for applying them beyond the university. And we partner with a wide diversity of employers—through job postings, career fairs, on-campus interviews, and professional development events—to connect Loyola students with internships, part- and full-time jobs, and graduate schools. We encourage every student to make use of our services, early and often, online and in person.
     
  • Online Student Success
    The Online Success Office aims to empower our online students and help them develop goals, study habits and strategies in order to successfully navigate the online learning environment. We partner with students, faculty, and staff to ensure online undergraduate and graduate students have access to resources and support mechanisms that enhance their success. Our success coaches guide students from enrollment to degree completion. We conduct success coaching meetings over the phone, online, or in person. We also connect you with resources that will help students troubleshoot technology issues, pay for classes, and complete coursework. We organize online webinars and workshops tailored toward the challenges and issues most relevant to distance learners, so you always have access to the wealth of knowledge and expertise offered by our faculty and staff.
     
  • Writing & Learning Services
    The Office for Writing and Learning Support (OWLS) provides free academic tutoring and writing assistance for multiple disciplines. As part of the Student Success Center, OWLS works with students to develop their academic potential in a relaxed atmosphere with the help of their classmates. Formerly known as the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Lab. Online Programs: Students enrolled in online programs or distance-learning classes can submit essay drafts to OWLS for constructive review by the same peer tutors who work with on-campus students.

Public Safety & University Police

Loyola University New Orleans’s Public Safety Department is a service oriented organization which aims to provide a safe environment conducive to learning, living and working. Public Safety’s offices are located on the main campus in Biever Hall and on the Broadway campus in Founders Hall. Resources include Parking Services, Shuttle Services, Bicycle Safety, and Safety Escorts. 

Public Safety focuses its efforts on the safety of Loyola’s students, faculty, staff and visitors. Public Safety personnel are highly trained, proud professionals dedicated to serving the Loyola Community.

Student Affairs

The Office of Student Affairs cultivates a learning environment in the Jesuit tradition which engages students in the full development of all human qualities, cura personalis. Our students are encouraged to discover, develop, and apply life skills that will enable them to become well-developed and responsible members of the community. The Chief Student Affairs Officer provides leadership for the development of programs and services enhancing the curricular and cocurricular student experience.

The Whelan Children’s Center is a high quality childcare program for the children of the faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The center, located on Loyola’s campus, provides a safe and stimulating educational environment with a highly qualified, experienced, nurturing staff.

Women’s Resource Center

The Women's Resource Center (WRC) fosters an intersectional community of feminists advancing gender equality through education and empowerment. Through our Feminist Forum magazine, we seek to educate ourselves and others through critical analysis of struggles for gender equity. Trained advocates in our center serve survivors of gender violence and persons confronting gender discrimination. Our programming team, in collaboration with a variety of departments, student organizations, and local and national partners, offer opportunities for intellectual, personal, and professional development that advance gender equity, including Take Back the Night in the fall and Feminist Festival in the spring. In all our work, we seek to embody Loyola’s social justice mission.
